Expat Mar Menor was born from the real-life experiences of two friends born and raised in the Murcia region.

Rubén, co-founder of Expat Mar Menor, spent several years living in London with his girlfriend, before moving to a golf community in Murcia, surrounded by expats. Thanks to his work as a mechanic, he was in daily contact with a wide array of people and naturally started helping foreign neighbours in Spain with their paperwork and administrative tasks. His language skills, local contacts, and genuine empathy quickly made him an invaluable resource for his community.

Meanwhile, Gonzalo, the other co-founder, faced complex bureaucracy despite being Spanish himself when helping his Scottish wife settle in Spain. From residency to healthcare and driving licenses, the process was frustratingly unclear and it made him realise: if it was this hard for them, it must be even tougher for newcomers unfamiliar with the language or systems.

Drawing on their combined experiences, Rubén and Gonzalo saw a clear need for a service that was honest, transparent, and truly helpful for foreigners trying to build a life in Spain. With Gonzalo’s business expertise and Rubén’s practical insight and friendly approach, they founded Expat Mar Menor.

Their mission is simple: to stand out in a market crowded with overpriced, mediocre services by offering practical, affordable solutions that make expat life easier and helping them feel at home from day one.
